Strawberry Angioma / Strawberry Mark
** Strawberry angioma (Strawberry mark) shows reddish flat patch ( early flat phase ) on newborn baby's skin. The lesion shortly increase in the size and elevate rapidly in several weeks ( early elevating phase/elevated phase/growth phase ) , and the coulour changes more vivid like a strawberry. Although spontaneous regression ( regressing phase ) in long duration (several years) can be seen in most cases of strawberry angioma, prominent scar formation (insufficient regression) often occures (see the photos left). Dye laser irradiation is most effective method against strawberry angioma in early flat phase. Laser treatment can produce early regression and minimum elevating change of angioma. Therefore, the risk of the scar formation consequently decrease. Although the dramatical effect is limited on the angioma in early phase, the laser treatment can accelerate the regression of some cases in late growth phase .
The National Health Insurance Program in Japan will cover 70% of the total cost for the laser treatment.
